Miscellaneous and NEWS
I would like to start by informing those who come here that this site will be updated as the activities of Dragonfly continues on. I will try to fish out the latest news and post them here. There will be some changes added in the beginning of next year as Dragonfly is also going through some changes. Also, this site will be translated to different languages to help to expose Dragonfly to a bigger audience. Apart from English, Russian has been added, as well as Hungarian and Chinese is perhaps on the way soon. Japanese is still waiting for a person with skills to translate. If you have those skills, or know anyone who does, send me an email.
Thank you,

2010 - March - NEW DRUMMER JUANJO ALONSO Dragonfly is proud to present Juanjo Alonso, new drummer of Dragonfly. Since Vikingo announced leaving the group, Dragonfly has been looking for a someone to take his place. Someone who fits in entirely to the dynamics of the band, not only musically but also with regards to the level of commitment they have all put into this project. Juanjo was chosen from among more than 20 candidates in a tough selection process that lasted over two months and ended with a performance in 3 concerts in February. From Dragonfly official webpage, we all welcome you and hope to be with us and them for a long time.
2010 - February - FAREWELL PARTY FOR "EL VIKINGO" & ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW DRUMMER This poster was posted on Myspace the 19th of January and announces the farewell-party of El Vikingo. We all wish him the best of luck in wherever his new journey will take him and we also want to welcome the new talent that will uphold his legacy. I am most confident in the judgement of the band and Vikingo's successor and I hope that fans will give him a chance to be accepted. As for El Vikingo... you will be missed! Read his letter to the fans!
2010 - January - NEW DRUMMER SELECTED!!! Both drummers are tested with a variety of songs from the album and there is one more test to pass before the final decision is made. Saturday the 16th of January was the date set for the final test of the drummers. Shortly, Dragonfly will announce their new drummer. Right now, rehearsals are in focus as the members need to learn, adjust and mold into a team once more. SUMMARY There is a lot that can be said about 2009. Most of us has gone through it and felt the long term consequences that have followed the recession. Well, my friends, don't think that you are the only ones that have gotten a hit by the shaking world economy. Indeed, when people don't have money to spend, priorites in life are re-valued and a lot of things end up further down the priority list. However, life has to go on; we all need to continue working and the bands must contonue playing. Of course the demand for music, which is a luxiry in life, was sent diving down-hill as the recession emptied people's resources. Not just Dragonfly, but a lot of bands have suffered enormously due to this. Piracy doesn't make it easier in these trying times, because it is at these times especially when money is needed the most to keep the band floating until the demand for gigs and the sales of albums are restored. In addition to the trying times that affected the entire world, the Dragonfly has out-grown its skin and needs to shed some of the old and regain something new. It needs to try its wings now more that ever and 2010 will be one crucial event in the development of this little ondata. Dragonfly has been fighting hard for its survival. The band members have been rehearsing tirelessly so that when the world is back on its feet, we will once again enjoy the enchanting sounds of these lads. In fact, if my ears are not ringing with tinnitus, the third album might be on the planning stage! That has to account for fantastic news, don't you think? If you love this band, support them with your comments, messages (Guestbook, Myspace, Youtube etc) and show them that you have not forgotten them.
2009 - November-December - 2nd ROUND FOR THE DRUMMERS A large number of young talents have showed their interest and the competition is ongoing. Quickly reduced down to scarce numbers, a few skillfull drummers have gone through the first selection process. Finally, Another test and one more out. Two competitors remain as the second test try-out is finished.
2009 - October - AUDITION FOR NEW DRUMMER Dragonfly has announced they are conducting autidions for a new drummer. El Vikingo has decided that after so many years it is time to divert focus to a new path in life and will be going back to his native land Argentina by the end of February. We are sure that this was a very tough decision for him as the band has been his second family and the effort and hard work they all put into Dragonfly has created strong bonds between the members. However, El Vikingo has assured he will be conducting a very gruesome test for the newcomers to see who will be best suited to replace him as he will not hand over his position to just about anyone. With the same dedication as ever, Chris will make sure that the new talent will meet all the criteria needed, but the time is very limited I am not a very subtle person when people make me angry and the cancellation of the tour with these three great bands really ruffled my feathers. I had written a long comment I was going to post to ALL three bands, but finally decided not to. I can open my mouth here though and I think that it was mostly the pie-throwing and finger-pointing by certain individuals that turned my stomach. And we all know that it is very often those who put the blame that are often the reason behind the problem. I am not going to name and names, but I think that Richal has handled this very well and he has graciously (in my opinion) gone out with an apology to fans and others. Some other invovled parties leave a great deal to desire, which just gest to show why Dragonfly deserves respect. This is the English translation of the official announcement made by Juan Carlos Gómez "Richal" from Red Sky Productions and management: "Official communiqué on the suspension of the ANGRA and VISION DIVINE tour. Madrid, November 17, 2009 Dear friends, Red Sky Productions has to announce the sad news of the total suspension of the European tour, which the band [Dragonfly] would have performed alongside the Italian Vision Divine. Due to some production problems, which provoked the cancellation of a few European concerts at first, the entire tour became soiled. This suspension has impacted also on our European dates, as well as gigs in Spain, which we fought to save to the very last minute. From Red Sky Productions, we want to apologize to all people and institutions involved, and to the general public for all the inconvenience and disappointment that this suspension has caused. We would also like to show our appreciation to their professionalism, support and affection; both to Dragonfly and Vision Divine (part of the cartel in the Spanish tour dates). Juan Carlos Gomez "Richal" Dir Red Sky Productions. " I can say I had no interest in management what so ever, but the slandering of the very person who tried to save this event [Richal] really blew my head off... and since then Richal is the MAN in my eyes. This letter was to defend HIM, and I do not take regards to what people say in this matter because Richal was the winner no matter what bad is said. You can all read my letter below. I tried to be as balanced as possible and the message that I was trying to get through was that, if you have a deal with someone regarding a huge enterprise that takes months to realize, you do NOT start to mess about the terms of the contract only a few weeks before the tour starts. Greed is a bitter thing, my friends and since this occasion, I realised that management is an important thing behind a band. There are times when you need to back down and reconsider if you are right or wrong, but in this case, I am 100% behind Richal's back. NOTE: This letter is MY sole opinion and has no connetions to any of the bands. "This message is to Angra, Dragonfly and Vision Divine and supporting fans. European Tour cancellations and pear-shaped explanations found online… If you make an agreement and then go back on it, it is called, making an ass out of your own mouth. I hope that some of the bands involved in the European tour feel that foul aftertaste of the crap they are chewing, because they should be choking on it! We who are fans are, unfortunately, dependant on the whims and wishes of the bands we like. And to some extent we are ready to accept certain self-importance, however, I deem the arrogance of some, as with this European Tour, as a specific blow to the face of the fans on whom you are dependant on for your fame and the money you take pleasure from. If it hadn’t been for the support of fans, you’d be only a shadow away from a pile of dirt, being flushed down as a back-alley-band where some of you now belong before you can redeem yourselves. The European tour cancellation of Angra, Dragonfly and Vision Divine, is a slap in the face of all fans, because it just gets to show that Money Talks and Bullshit Walks. Fans don’t matter! This has become evident by this latest event of conceited blowfish who have been casting a shadow over their own reputation. It also gets to show that no matter the tear-jerking announcements about “me not getting what I want, and so I will sulk in contempt and blame others” - attitude, which only makes this whole charade a puke-inducing disgrace, is still a slap in the face of and disrespect towards fans who have been looking forward to these concerts. And don’t forget that we DO PAY for you subsidence so we have the right to express our fury over your arrogance. It is a huge disappointment to see that grown human beings lack enough knowledge or in this case intelligence to understand that with such undertaking you should have settled all kind of agreements months before the concerts, because this is the result. These ridiculous actions of yours have shown that you have either 1) no sense of understanding how proper business is conducted, or 2) you have the business ethics of the bankers who sent Argentina into bankrupsy in 2001. It seems like some of you, have quite the skills in being un-business-like. I don’t know whether to blame this on plain stupidity or greed, but you sure proved to qualify on both to us fans. Another thing to bring to point is the slander of individuals [Richal], held solely responsible for the failure of multiple bands not coming together. Does it really take a genius to figure out that it takes two to tango? And in this case there are dozens of people stepping on each others toes, because they are so lousy at accomplishing the right steps to joint success, and they are trying to make one person held responsible? That alone qualifies to the “Lowest-of- the-lowest”- award, which should awaken distaste and fuming anger in all fans, regardless of your liking. There were at least three bands involved, each with their own managers and the promoters. Now, what kind of naïve people do these players think we are, who would swallow this immense untruth without a thought of our own? This pathetic weeping over the web-pages is nothing but a good bullshit story aimed to be jammed down the throat of naïve fans. This bickering about just weeks before the shows is unforgivable… especially when they lack the taste of at least keeping this charade to themselves… instead of going out and blaming others! But no! They actually believe they can gain sympathy by exposing the stupidity that has sent these concerts into nothing. Fans should hold all involved collectively blamed for this failure. As a compensation for this loss and the arrogant, childish, “I want a bigger sand-bucket”-hysteria amongst grown men who, fans should be compensated for by the bands proving us wrong about them being nothing but money-hungry asshats who cannot even collaborate to make a concert function. Do the damn thing! Disappointed Fan Please feel free to comment on this matter in the Guestbook. If you have additional info, do provide with it. The translation is not re-written to larger extent, so that to preserve the meaning and words of Vikingo. Therefore, there might be some discrepencies to the English way of expression.
Journal of The Viking Press, drummer of Dragonfly: "Hello everybody, my name is Christian Gaston Scornaienchi, Argentine, 37, married with two sons, drummer and a dreamer ... I announce to all, a very difficult decision for me, which is that I will leave Dragonfly. It is a choice I never wanted to make, but due to personal, family, emotional and financial reasons, I have to stop playing and reunite with my family after many months. I tried everything that was in my power to pursue this dream, but right now, my family needs me and they are the main priority on my scale of values ... I am sad, but also happy at the same time; sad to stop playing but happy to see my musician friends, Pablo Solano, Juan Nadal, Juan Alberto and Isauro Albacete Aljaro continue on in this struggle. I will always support them in this unconditionally. 7 years of true friendship, not measured in minutes or years, but in fairness, understanding and cooperation ... If you still remember when I came here to Spain, with Ariel Mittica ... we walked halls, looking for musicians until we found those excpetional musicians who had the same dream, the same spirit, the same enthusiasm ... then everything began again, this was in 2003. We traveled many roads together, some flat, smooth and straight and others with stones and curves, but always together. Today, January 2010, I leave my place to someone who really is going to earn it, someone responsible, who will push things and take their course as far as I did. The continuous life and life's clock is not stopped, so time is our executioner, therefore, I choose to participate in the dreams of my family, those of my children who need me a lot ... I want to thank everyone who made me a small place their heart, to those who supported me, who encouraged me, who trusted me, the musicians who once shared the stage with me, everyone, including the ones who criticized me, who scoffed, the envious, the idiots, all those sons-of-bitches who ever made me feel bad. To thank all of them for they too made me even stronger. Those who at first played in Buenos Aires as friends Marcelo Arenas, Fernando Piris, Lorena Brito, who helped us with his talent as Ezekiel Wiurnos (Dream Master) and the proper Ariel Mittica (Arion), thanks my friends! ! All Dragonfly fans, all the people on the forum, those who write in the guestbook, thank you, thank you always. They say that gratitude is the memory of the heart, so once again Thanks. I also extend my gratitude to all those who have received hope, encouragement, and emotions from my lyric or form what I have said or written. I assure you that made me feel very happy, and thanks for that recognition. Musically, I am a fulfilled ... They say goodbye with a friend, be half of our heart. They will always be in mine, The Viking."
